Riyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia and is located in the Central Region. With a population of over 4,300,000 it is the largest city, with over 20% of the total population for the Kingdom.
Covering over 1,600 square km, Riyadh has developed into a striking modern city with bold architecture that can match any city in the world.
Incidentally, the word Riyadh comes from the Arabic word ‘rawdah” which means a place for gardens and trees. An abundance of trees line the main streets making it a very visually attractive feature and also providing shade from the sun.
Although in a very dry and arid location, Riyadh does receive some rainfall. There are 5 dams that provide water plus wells and piped desalinized water from the Persian Gulf.
