Saudi Arabia is named after the ruling dynasty of the Al Saud family and has developed from a relatively underdeveloped desert kingdom to become one of the wealthiest countries in the Middle East, with approximately 25% of the total known world reserves of oil.
It is often referred to as 'the land of the 2 holy mosques',Makkah (also spelt Mecca) and Madinah (also spelt Medina), the 2 most holiest Islamic places.
The government decrees that citizens must be Muslim, with minimal religious freedom. Other religions are accepted as temporary workers, and none of these minorities are permitted to pray in public or build temples or churches. | |
